Birthday Card Blitz: Scraps & Smiles

There’s nothing like a “Mom mission” to spark some crafty inspiration! During a chat last week, my mom mentioned she was running low on birthday cards—and you know I couldn’t let that happen. So, I dove into my Bright & Beautiful Designer Series Paper scraps (currently on the Last Chance list with some fabulous savings!) and got to work.

The goal? Quick and cheerful birthday cards that are easy to make, bright to look at, and perfect for replenishing her stash. I began by cutting several DSP strips and layering them on a panel of Basic White. I started at the bottom left corner and worked my way up, leaving some crisp white space on the right for balance. The “Happy Birthday” sentiment from the Simply Said stamp set is stamped in Azure Afternoon in the bottom right corner—simple and sweet.

Once the panel was all dressed up with seven fun strips of DSP, I trimmed off the edges and matted it with Azure Afternoon cardstock to really let that bold color pop. The whole piece was mounted on a Thick Basic White card base with dimensionals, and I finished things off with a sparkle or two—thanks to the Adhesive-Backed Sequins Trio (also on the Last Chance list—big score there if you want some savings!).

Of course, I couldn’t stop with just one. These came together so fast that I created more in Berry Burst, Blueberry Bushel, Lemon Lime Twist, Pretty Peacock, and Lost Lagoon. I even made coordinating envelopes by decorating the flaps with matching DSP scraps—easy and eye-catching!

The Berry Burst card is my entry for Inkspirational Challenge #339. The mood board’s colors and the egg patterns felt like such a playful match for the vibe of this card.

And the Azure Afternoon version is heading to the Inspired By Challenge Inspired by Color IB332, where the sketch (only I put the pattern on the other side) and the color palette inspired the clean layout and bright palette I used.

If you’d like to see just how quickly these cards come together—and how you can make the most of your own scraps—I created a video tutorial for you!

Let me know which color combo is your favorite—and if you’re grabbing any of these Last Chance goodies before they’re gone, I’d love to hear what you’re crafting with them!

These are the kinds of cards you’ll want to make a few of to keep on hand or to gift someone who’s always sending happy mail (hi, Mom!).
