Bugs Too Cute to Eclipse!

🐞✨ A Paper Party Live Favorite

There’s something especially joyful about creating cards that feel playful, colorful, and just plain happy—and today’s Paper Party Live project fits that description perfectly. I’m so excited to share one of the two cards created using the Cute as a Bug Suite, and this one truly steals the show. It combines cheerful Designer Series Paper, adorable die-cut bugs, and a technique that looks fancy but is surprisingly easy to master: the Eclipse Technique.

This card is all about letting patterned paper do the heavy lifting, and I CASEd it from Mary Deatherage, a fellow Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator. This leans heavily on the Cute as a Bug Designer Series Paper and the Sweet Bugs dies, which makes this project approachable and fun—even if you don’t own the coordinating stamp set yet. The bold “HEY” greeting is the star of the show, created using the Eclipse Technique so the letters appear to float seamlessly within the background. This is one of those techniques that delivers instant wow without being complicated, and once you’ve tried it, you’ll start imagining all the ways you can use it with other sentiments and themes. I share three other styles of using the Eclipse Technique right here.

What I especially love about this card is the playful storytelling tucked into the details. A little bug enjoying a good book adds charm near the greeting, while another tiny critter happily plays music perched on one of the letters. A sweet epoxy ladybug makes its way across the design, adding just the right touch of shine and whimsy. Inside the card, there’s plenty of clean, bright space ready for a handwritten note—because cards like this are meant to be shared and enjoyed.

Paper Party Live: Let’s Craft This Together

I’ll be demonstrating this Eclipse Technique card live during Paper Party Live, and I would absolutely love for you to craft along with me. During the live video, I’ll walk you through the technique step by step, share tips for layering the die-cut letters, and show you how simple adjustments can completely change the look. Whether you’re new to the Eclipse Technique or just love seeing ideas come together in real time, this is a fun one to watch.

About the PDF Tutorial

I’ve also created a detailed PDF tutorial that includes this card along with a special bonus project. That second card will only be shared briefly during the live—it’s a little extra happy tucked into the tutorial as a thank-you. The PDF is free for my team members and for customers who placed a qualifying order in December, and it’s also available for purchase in my online store. Keeping the tutorial very affordable helps support my small business and allows me to continue creating, teaching, and sharing projects like this with you.

If you love having written instructions, photos, and inspiration you can return to again and again, this PDF is a great addition to your crafting library.

Thank you, truly, for being here—whether you’re crafting along live, watching the replay, or supporting my work through a tutorial purchase. I’m also sending Make & Take Kits of this Eclipse Technique card to my team members and qualifying customers, and I cannot wait to see how they make it their own. This creative community means the world to me, and I’m so grateful to share moments like these with you. 💕
