There’s something so satisfying about turning a basic punch into a completely fresh and unexpected card design. Today’s project features the Heartfelt Hexagon Punch, but not in the way you might expect!

I started by grabbing a panel of the Lovely Garden Designer Series Paper and went to town punching out the entire thing using the Heartfelt Hexagon Punch. With all those hexagon pieces ready, the real fun began—doodling! Using my Black Stampin’ Write Marker, I added little sketched borders around each hexagon. It gave the pieces such quirky character and charm. Once all my pieces had their doodled edges, I adhered them onto a slightly larger panel of Basic White cardstock, essentially recreating the original layout with a playful twist.

This new doodled mosaic panel got layered onto Basic Black cardstock to really help those colors pop. Then, the whole layered piece was attached to a Thick Basic White card base. Already it was looking bold and vibrant—but I wasn’t done!

To add even more interest and dimension, I pulled out some coordinating scraps from the same DSP pack. A fun black and white polka dot piece and a green grid design were each backed with Garden Green cardstock, giving them nice, clean edges. I arranged them with a little overlap and popped them onto the card front with dimensionals to add depth.

The sentiment, “Thinking of You Brings a Smile to My Face,” is from the Pattern of Friendship stamp set. I stamped it in Blueberry Bushel on Basic White and gave it a Blueberry Bushel mat to match. It felt like the perfect finishing touch to sit atop the green grid panel. And inside the card, the theme was continued with a Basic White panel layered onto a mat of Blueberry Bushel—just enough to carry the color story through without being over the top. For a bit of sparkle, I couldn’t resist adding three Holographic Resin Dots to the front.

What I love most about this card is the doodling. It’s such a simple addition, but it adds so much personality and whimsy. It’s one of those little touches that makes the card feel like no other. The Heartfelt Hexagon punch truly got a moment to shine in this unexpected, creative way. Below is a video showing step-by-step how the card was created:
I CASEd this card fr L. Beacham. She’s from Australia and simply amazing. Have you ever tried doodling on your punched-out shapes? I’d love to hear what you’ve created!
