Have you ever tried to make an angled card and ended up with pieces that just didn’t quite line up? You are not alone, friend. Today’s project is all about the Angled Gatefold Card—and I promise, you don’t need a math degree to make it look amazing! I’m showing you my favorite no-measure, no-stress method for perfect angles every single time.

For the card in the video, I’m using the Label Me Grateful stamp set along with the North Pole Delivery Designer Series Paper. My base is Pecan Pie cardstock, cut and folded to create a nice wide gatefold. To get those angled flaps, I line the top edge at the 5-1/2-inch mark in my Paper Trimmer and make a small notch at 4-1/4. Then I connect that notch up to the inner score line and trim—easy peasy! The little triangle I cut off becomes my handy template to make the opposite flap match perfectly.

If you’d rather use your Paper Trimmer for both sides, you absolutely can. I sometimes hand-cut one and then double-check the other in the trimmer if my “eyeballing” gets a little creative—because, hey, we’ve all been there! Once your base is ready, it’s time for those gorgeous layers. My coordinating cardstock is Early Espresso. Here’s the best part: you don’t even have to measure the angles. I simply lay that piece on the flap, flip the card over, and snip the extra. Perfect fit, every time. You can also simply use a pen or pencil to mark where the cut should be when you flip it over and use the trimmer instead of scissors – either way works!

For the patterned layer, I grabbed a dotted Pool Party design from the North Pole Delivery DSP. I did the same quick trim to match the angle of the cardstock. Both layers get adhered to the card flaps, and they line up like magic. Inside the card, I added another Early Espresso panel topped with Basic White stamped with a simple “Thank You” in Early Espresso.

The focal point on the front makes this design shine. I die-cut the label frame from Label Me Grateful twice—once in Basic White and once in Pecan Pie. The white piece is stamped with the sentiment “A Little Kindness Makes a Big Difference” in Early Espresso, and then the Pecan Pie layer is cut in half and tucked behind the white one for a pretty framed edge. The acorn branches were cut from Early Espresso and Pecan Pie cardstock, with the acorns snipped off and layered together to create a rich, two-tone look. A touch of Dark Pecan Pie Stampin’ Blend adds depth to the acorn caps. Everything is popped up on dimensionals and finished with three Streaked Dots for a subtle sparkle. Don’t forget the coordinating envelope—because matching envelopes are the cherry on top!

What I adore about this layout is how versatile it is. Once you master the angled fold, you can use any papers, stamps, and colors you have in your stash. To prove it, I made a few more versions. One features the Branching Out stamp set with Elegant Pine Snowflakes DSP in Old Olive, Garden Green, and Basic White—a perfect card for birthdays or winter celebrations. This card is being entered into the TicTacToe Challenge #282 with the diagonal of Leaves, FREE, and Die Cuts:

Another uses Festive Friends with Modern Christmas Specialty DSP in Real Red, Soft Seafoam, and Basic White. That happy little snowman surrounded by die-cut circles just makes me smile!

The final version showcases Choose Happy with Peaceful Garden DSP in Secret Sea, Cloud Cover, and Basic White. The “Happy Day” sentiment, punched with the Modern Oval Punch and layered with circle punches, feels so fresh and cheerful. Each one includes a coordinating envelope, of course—because those finishing touches matter.

Whether you need a thank-you, a birthday, or a just-because card, this angled gatefold layout will be your new best friend. It looks like it took forever, but it’s really all about a few clever cuts and creative layering. And the best part? No math required—just a little crafting joy and your favorite papers.

I noticed on the angled card that if I just measure 1 1/2” from the front gatefold to the scored fold and cut it off I don’ t have to worry about the 3 3/8 measurement. Seems easier for me. Thanks for all your wonderful videos.
Thanks for your tip, Maralyn! I just love how there’s always more than one way to do something in paper crafting! It’s simply amazing. And also how crafters are always happy to help each other with little tips. I hope you stop by again soon!
