Shaking Things Up with the Beautiful Butterflies Shaker Card!

There’s something truly magical about shaker cards, and I am beyond thrilled with how my latest creation turned out! Using the Beautiful Butterflies stamp set and coordinating dies, I CASEd this design from the Stampin’ Up! website, and after a few trial runs, I found the easiest method for me. The end result is absolutely stunning, and I can’t wait to share it with you!

The foundation of this card began with a breathtaking sheet from the Beautiful Bokeh Designer Series Paper (DSP). To make the colors pop even more, I adhered it to a base of Blackberry Bliss cardstock. This provided the perfect contrast to showcase the beauty of the DSP. Next, I used the large butterfly die to cut out a butterfly shape from the DSP/Blackberry Bliss layer, creating the front art piece of my card.

To complement the design, I cut two sentiment pieces using dies from the set—one in Basic White and the other in Blackberry Bliss. For the shaker element, I stamped the large butterfly in Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto a coordinating sheet of the DSP. Surrounding the butterfly shape with Foam Adhesive Strips was surprisingly easy, thanks to their flexibility and thin design. I carefully placed the strips around the butterfly outline and then trimmed the excess paper along the outside edge.

Now, for the fun part—filling the shaker! I poured a generous amount of the Itty Bitty Bokeh Mix into the butterfly-shaped opening, ensuring there was plenty of movement inside. A shaker should only be filled half full – at the most – in order for the elements inside to easily move. To secure everything in place, I applied Tear & Tape adhesive around the back edges of the art piece, ensuring there were no gaps in the adhesive. A perfectly cut Window Sheet was then adhered to the Tear & Tape area, sealing the front die cut hole. Then the butterfly cutout on the front art piece (now covered with the window sheet) was aligned with the stamped butterfly shaker element beneath it, creating a seamless, sealed, and dimensional effect.

Additional pieces of Foam Adhesive Strips were added to the back of the front panel to provide even height and stability before attaching the front panel to the Berry Burst card base. For the sentiment, I stamped “Happy Birthday” in Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto the Basic White die-cut piece. To give it extra dimension, I shadowed it with the Blackberry Bliss die-cut sentiment. Before adhering it to the card front with dimensionals, I looped some silver thread behind it to add a touch of fun and movement.

The finishing touch was the inside of the card, which features a panel of Basic White cardstock bordered by Blackberry Bliss. This not only ties the entire design together but also provides the perfect space for a heartfelt message.

This card is being entered into the Colorful Options Challenge for February with their beautiful Mood Board and the yummiest colors – perfect for this card!

    • Thanks, Mike! I thought the colors were fun, too! It took me three previous attempts to do the shaker card (that darn learning curve), and those were in yellow, blue, and white. This one is my favorite, for sure! I appreciate your support so much.
