Sweet and Simple Card with Pop of Texture

Today’s card is full of summery color, layered joy, and a little unexpected texture magic! I had such a fun time creating this sweet card—it’s simple in design, but bold and happy in feeling, which is just the kind of project I love sharing with you.

To start, I reached for a rainbow of 2025–2027 In Colors, except that I swapped out the Secret Sea (I am oddly out of it) color for Night of Navy – all the others are in there: Cloud Cover, Darling Duckling, Timid Tiger, and Strawberry Slush. I cut each into strips and adhered them to a panel of Basic White cardstock to make my art piece. It already looked charming, but the real magic happened next: I ran the art piece through my Mini Cut & Emboss Machine using the Gardens embossing folder from the Glass & Gardens folder duo. The raised floral texture layered over the colorful stripes? Absolute joy!

I folded a piece of Basic White cardstock to create the card base and stamped the sentiment, “Thinking of You Brings a Smile to My Face,” from the Pattern of Friendship stamp set in Night of Navy ink on the upper right corner of the card front. The striped-and-embossed art piece was then placed to the left, creating a playful balance between white space and vibrant color.

Inside the card, I added a Basic White panel matted with Night of Navy for a polished finish. And because no card is complete without a little sparkle, I added three Timid Tiger 2025–2027 In Color Flat Pearls along the side of the art piece just beneath the sentiment. These tiny gems add just the right pop of shine and playfulness.

Want to see the whole process come together? I’ve created a step-by-step video tutorial that walks you through the full card from start to finish—and you can watch it right here:

This card reminds me of the power of combining simple techniques—clean color blocking, embossing, and thoughtful embellishments—to create something that makes you (and hopefully the recipient) smile. I’m entering this card into the TicTacToe Challenge #274 with the Layers/Free/Summer Colors row.

I hope you’re inspired to give this layout a try using your favorite colors! Happy crafting, friends!
