Split Front Magic
Oh my goodness, this was one of those “why did I wait so long to try this?” kind of projects! I’ve seen variations of this Split Front Card floating around for quite a while, and I finally decided to give it a go—and wow! I was not prepared for just how fun and versatile this design would be.

What really makes this technique shine is that it gives you two cards at once. Yes, please! If I’m already cutting into a beautiful piece of Designer Series Paper, I may as well make the most of it, right? There’s something so satisfying about creating a pair of coordinating cards from one layout, and this one delivers in such a big way.

I started with Very Vanilla cardstock and used a simple score and cut method to create two card bases at the same time. It’s one of those little efficiency tricks that feels like a win before you’ve even begun decorating. From there, I added an embossed layer using the Damask Designs Embossing Folder, which gives the card such a soft, elegant texture without overpowering the rest of the design.

The real magic happens with the Beautiful Gallery Designer Series Paper (DSP). Instead of measuring precisely, I used a more relaxed, eyeballed approach to create angled cuts. It keeps things simple and honestly adds a bit of organic charm to the finished cards. Those three cut pieces become the focal point across two different cards, and it all comes together so easily.

For this version, I used Mossy Meadow cardstock to accent the edges of the DSP pieces, and I absolutely love how rich and grounding it looks. It adds just the right amount of contrast while still feeling warm and cohesive with the rest of the design.

I chose a “Thank You For Everything” sentiment because I’m always reaching for thank you cards, and this layout feels so special—perfect for expressing a little extra gratitude. I paired that with die cuts and stamped images, along with some ribbon, linen thread, and a few embellishments to bring everything together.

Of course, once I made the first set, I couldn’t stop there. I created a couple more variations to show just how flexible this design can be. One version leans into a more layered and embellished look with deeper tones and lots of texture, while another keeps things clean and simple, making it a great option for masculine cards. Same layout, completely different feel, which is always one of my favorite things to explore.

This is definitely one of those designs that you can customize again and again depending on the paper, colors, and embellishments you choose. It’s a great one to keep in your back pocket when you want something that looks a little different but comes together without any fuss.

I’d love to know which version you like best, and if you give this technique a try, be sure to let me know how it turns out for you!
