A Banner Card That Brings the Fun

There’s just something extra special about creating a card that feels as playful as the occasion it celebrates, and this one absolutely delivers! For the latest Cut It Up! Challenge #353, the theme is all about baby or kid-friendly cards with a die cut taking center stage—so I couldn’t resist going a little outside the box and creating a card with a fun, unexpected shape.

Instead of a traditional rectangle, I used the Party Banners Dies to create a banner-shaped card base, and oh my goodness… it makes such a statement right from the start! The Basic Black cardstock gives it a bold foundation, and by carefully positioning the die so the top remained intact, it transformed into a fully functional card with a unique silhouette. Isn’t that just the best kind of crafty magic?

From there, I layered in warm, cheerful color using Timid Tiger cardstock with beautiful texture from the Paradise Garden Hybrid Embossing Folder. That embossed layer adds such depth—it’s one of those details that really makes you want to reach out and touch the card. And then comes that gorgeous Florals In Bloom Designer Series Paper in those rich orange tones on a white background, which ties everything together so beautifully.

The layered banner elements create the perfect stage for the focal point, and I added a clean Basic White panel for the sentiment, stamped in Timid Tiger ink. “Woohoo It’s Your Birthday” just feels like pure joy, doesn’t it? It pairs perfectly with the sweet little giraffe from the Silly Safari stamp set, who is just full of personality.

I colored the giraffe using Stampin’ Blends, bringing him to life with warm, natural tones. After fussy cutting him (totally worth it!), I tucked him in on the side with a few stamped and fussy-cut leaves in Garden Green. I love how he leans into the design, almost like he’s peeking in to help celebrate!

To finish things off, I added a few Timid Tiger In Color Flat Pearls for a bit of shine and a sweet Linen Thread bow for that soft, handcrafted touch. Those little details really pull everything together and add just the right amount of charm.

Even the inside got a little love with a coordinating banner-shaped panel, leaving plenty of space to write a heartfelt message. It’s those finishing touches that make the whole card feel complete and extra thoughtful.

This card makes me smile every time I look at it—the texture, layers, happy colors, and that adorable giraffe all come together in such a fun way.
