Today I decided to challenge myself in the best crafty way possible — by taking a single layout and seeing how many different styles I could make using the same stamp set, but completely switching up the colors and patterned papers. Oh my goodness… this turned out to be so much fun! I honestly had to make myself stop after three because I could have kept going and going. When a layout works, it really works — and this one absolutely stole the show.

The first card, featured in the video, began with a Gorgeous Grape card base. I added a layer of Basic Black and topped it with the birds and winter trees pattern from the Nests of Winter Designer Series Paper (DSP).

The layout includes a simple horizontal strip slightly above the center of the card, so I used the woodgrain pattern from the same DSP pack, layered on Basic Black and Gorgeous Grape for a bold, masculine look. For the sentiment, I chose the “Happy Birthday” from the Long Time No See stamp set and stamped it in Memento Tuxedo Black on a piece of coordinating DSP featuring a little robin in the lower left corner.

The sentiment area is triple-matted with Basic Black and Gorgeous Grape to really help it pop, then adhered with dimensionals right across the center strip. To finish the front, I colored three Rhinestone Basic Jewels with my dark Basic Black Stampin’ Blend so they would match perfectly. Inside, a panel of Basic White sits neatly inside a Basic Black layer. This one is being entered into the Cardz 4 Guys #380 challenge, and I love how bold, rich, and guy-friendly it turned out.

The second card follows the exact same layout but looks entirely different thanks to a fresh color palette and playful patterned papers. This time, I used a Cajun Craze card base. The Secret Sea layer and DSP panel match the same measurements as the previous card, but I chose the cheerful dotted design from the Boho Vibes DSP.

The cross-strip features a diagonally striped Secret Sea pattern, again matted with Secret Sea and Cajun Craze for continuity with the first version. For the sentiment area, I stamped “Sorry I’m a Little Behind” from Long Time No See, and added the dachshund’s adorable backside in his cozy sweater. He’s colored with Stampin’ Blends in Cloud Cover, Daffodil Delight, Secret Sea, Cajun Craze, and Crumb Cake. The matted sizes are exactly the same as the first card, which makes switching up the look so easy. Secret Sea Low-Profile Sparkle Dots add the perfect finishing touch.

Inside, the dog’s head and the “Happy Birthday” sentiment pull everything together. This card is being entered into the Addicted to Stamps & More #506 “Make Your Mark” challenge — and those alcohol markers definitely made their mark here!

For the third card, I kept the base measurements the same as the second card but shifted the orientation to landscape for a fresh twist. The Cherry Cobbler card base is topped with the dark pine snowflakes pattern from the Elegant Pine Snowflakes DSP. Instead of centering the horizontal strip this time, I placed the Cherry Cobbler piece slightly off-center toward the right side with a little over an inch from the right border. The llama (or alpaca!) wearing the cutest winter scarf is stamped in Memento Black and colored with Crumb Cake, Pretty in Pink, Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive, and Pretty Peacock blends. He’s laid right across that Cherry Cobbler strip, and the “Merry Christmas” sentiment is die-cut with the largest banner from the Stylish Shapes dies.

A trio of Traditional Sparkle Sequins in Old Olive makes the sentiment shimmer just a bit. Inside, Basic White is framed with Old Olive, and I stamped the beautiful greeting “May the Magic of Christmas Fill Each Corner of Your Home & Heart” from Words for the Season. This card is being entered into the Hand Stamped Sentiments #477 challenge because their photo inspiration perfectly echoes the colors and cozy Christmas feel of this design.

Whew! I’m so glad I gave myself this little creative challenge. One layout, one stamp set, and three completely different cards — all with their own personalities. I love when a design proves that the possibilities truly are endless.
I also created a free PDF tutorial that includes all three cards, their measurements, supplies, and close-up photos. You can download it right here on the blog.
