Same Sketch Different Story

There is something so special about being a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator and having access to creative tutorials from talented team members around the world. Today’s layout was inspired by a tutorial shared within our demonstrator community and is CASEd from Alisa Tilsner. The moment I saw her card, I fell in love with the structure and knew I had to try it myself. It is one of those layouts that feels fresh, balanced, and incredibly versatile. And of course, once we create something once… we immediately start imagining how to tweak it and make it our own, right?

For my first card, I began with a Basic White card base. A full panel of Crumb Cake linen patterned Designer Series Paper (DSP) from the soon-to-be-released Delicate Dreams pack was adhered to the front. To add depth and softness, I used a Blending Brush with Crumb Cake ink to gently distress the edges. I always keep Grid Paper underneath when ink blending to protect my work surface, especially when I know I’m going to get a little enthusiastic.

The vertical accent panel of Granny Apple Green cardstock was lightly distressed with Mossy Meadow ink using the same Blending Brush. I love that you can move from a lighter ink to a darker one with a Blending Brush without any trouble. While I had the Mossy Meadow ink open, I stamped two delicate stalk images from the Delicate Whispers stamp set onto Basic White, then die cut them with the coordinating dies.

The sentiment, “Hello, Friend,” was stamped in VersaMark onto Mossy Meadow cardstock and heat embossed using Basic WOW Embossing Powder in White. Using the Embossing Additions Tool Kit and Heat Tool helps keep everything tidy and controlled during the embossing process.

A Mossy Meadow DSP panel anchors the center of the design, and three Mossy Meadow strips run horizontally across the lower portion of the card front. The distressed Granny Apple Green panel was layered toward the left side, and the die cuts were popped up with Dimensionals for dimension and interest. The trimmed and banner-cut sentiment overlaps the focal images and extends slightly to the right, creating movement across the card. Three Mossy Meadow Natural Matte Dots were placed in a triangular pattern to finish the design.

Inside, a Basic White panel is matted with Mossy Meadow for a clean and polished look. This card is being entered into TicTacToe #286 using the center column of Die Cutting, Ink Blending, and Friendship, as well as The Card Concept #224 featuring Greens and using a Clean & Layered style for this card.

Once I finished that first card, I knew I had to try the layout again in a completely different color family. The second version begins with the same Basic White card base but shifts into a softer, romantic palette of pinks and purples. A Petal Pink graph pattern from the Square Snippets DSP pack was distressed with Strawberry Slush ink and slightly crinkled along the top and bottom left edges for texture. A slightly larger floral DSP panel layers over top, adding visual richness.

The three horizontal strips are a Strawberry Slush patterned DSP, lightly distressed on the edges for cohesion. A Fresh Freesia vertical panel was ink blended with Highland Heather and adhered toward the left side of the card front, echoing the structure of the first card while completely transforming the mood.

For the focal point, I die cut mushroom and caps from the Sweet Bugs dies in both Petal Pink and Fresh Freesia. I had so much fun adding additional color and texture with Strawberry Slush, Fresh Freesia, Highland Heather, and Gorgeous Grape inks and Blending Brushes. The layered inking gives the mushrooms personality and depth. They were popped up with Dimensionals for dimension and placed across the vertical panel. The “Love You Lots” sentiment from the Sweet Bugs stamp set was stamped in Strawberry Slush, banner cut, and layered across the bottom of the mushrooms to create a strong horizontal anchor. Three Petal Pink Pearlized Faceted Circles add sparkle and balance in a soft triangular arrangement.

Inside, a Basic White panel is matted with Highland Heather to coordinate beautifully with the exterior colors. This second card will be entered into The Colorful Options challenge using pinks and purples with flowers, as well as Inkspirational #361 featuring a visual prompt for February with similar tones, mushrooms, flowers and love.

These cards stretched me creatively, and I absolutely adore how the same layout can feel earthy and serene in greens or playful and whimsical in pinks and purples. I cannot wait to continue exploring this design in future projects.

I also created a video where I walk through the process of making the first card and share both finished designs. If you enjoy seeing the layers come together step by step, you can watch it below.

To make recreating these cards even easier, I’ve put together a free downloadable PDF tutorial with all the measurements and details. You can grab your copy using the button below and save it for future inspiration.

This layout truly has my heart right now, and I hope it inspires you to pull out your favorite papers, experiment with color, and give it a try.
