Storybook Fun Fold

A Little Magic Behind the Window

There’s something extra special about finally creating a project you’ve been meaning to try for a long time—and this one felt like stepping right into a sweet little fairy tale. I had wanted to CASE an idea from Brandy Cox over a year ago, and today just felt like the perfect day to bring it to life.

The stamp set I chose, Make a Wish, completely set the tone. With its charming pieces that includes a wishing well, cobblestone path, picket fence, and the cutest little duck, it practically tells its own story. I started by softly blending Granny Apple Green and Balmy Blue inks onto Basic White cardstock to create a peaceful outdoor scene. Once the background was in place, I built the setting with stamping and coloring, bringing in earthy tones and soft greens to give everything that cozy, storybook feel.

The magic really begins when the card opens. From the outside, you’re drawn in by the little window framing the wishing well scene, but inside, the Z-fold structure creates an interactive surprise. As the card opens, the front panel lifts away to reveal a hidden message and delicate stamped details, including a tiny dragonfly that adds just the right whimsical touch. It’s one of those designs that feels as delightful to open as it is to create.

I especially love how the die-cut window allows the front panel to stay connected to the inside fold, giving the card movement while still keeping everything aligned. Adding the duck with a bit of dimension and finishing with a few clear dewdrops brought just enough texture and life to the scene without overpowering its softness.

And the best part? This card stands beautifully on its own when open, making it a perfect display piece for someone special.

Here’s the short video so you can see how this fun fold comes together in action:

My full PDF tutorial is heading out as an exclusive to my newsletter subscribers on April 20. It’s a design that looks intricate but comes together in such a satisfying way—and it’s definitely one I’ll be making again.

This card will be entered into the challenges at Creative Fingers #320 Challenge Blog, Creative Creases, and C.R.A.F.T. #778 Challenge, all with an Anything Goes theme—perfect for a design like this that’s all about creativity and storytelling.

If you’ve ever saved an idea and thought “someday,” consider this your nudge… today might just be that day.
