Winter Birthday Magic with an Easy Layout

There are some card layouts that just click—the kind you finish and immediately think, “Oh yes… I’m making this again.” That was exactly my reaction to this sweet and easy fun fold card. Not only does it come together beautifully, but it also adapts effortlessly to different themes, which made it perfect for creating two cards using the same layout and entering them into a pair of fun card challenges.

I started with a Night of Navy card base. Inside the card base, a Crumb Cake panel was layered with Basic White, creating a warm, neutral backdrop that instantly felt cozy. A second, smaller folded mini card—also Night of Navy—gets adhered inside the main card, creating that delightful interactive element when the card is opened.

For the front flap of the card base, Crumb Cake cardstock was layered with a woodgrain pattern from the Nests of Winter Designer Series Paper. This combination added just the right amount of rustic texture and made the front feel grounded without overpowering the design.

Inside the mini card, the sentiment “Let’s Celebrate” from the Simply Said stamp set was stamped in Night of Navy, paired with delicate snowflakes from the Festive Friends stamp set. On the front of the mini card, a Garden Green striped DSP circle became the perfect stage for an adorable stamped snowman. The snowman was colored with Stampin’ Blends, then popped up with Dimensionals for a little extra charm. A birthday sentiment banner, a jaunty double bow made from Crumb Cake Baker’s Twine, and a touch of Wink of Stella on the hat finished the card with just the right amount of whimsy.

This card is being entered into the Christmas or Not BINGO Challenge #17 using the “O” column with a rectangle, twine, and patterned paper—and honestly, it checks all the boxes for me. Cozy, cheerful, and wonderfully versatile.

Because I loved the layout so much, I created a second version with a completely different vibe while keeping the same construction. This time, I used a Thick Basic White card base paired with bold Basic Black layers for a crisp, high-contrast look. Instead of patterned paper on the card front flap, I used a dry embossed Basic White panel with the Lovely Stripes Embossing Folder, which added texture without competing with the focal elements.

Inside the mini card, a single Basic White panel was stamped with candles from the Choose Happy stamp set and colored with Stampin’ Blends. The front of the mini card features torn layers of True Blue Florals DSP and Balmy Blue cardstock, arranged to resemble soft, snowy drifts. Three penguins from the same stamp set were stamped, colored, and tucked onto the layers at different heights and angles for playful movement and personality.

A “Happy Birthday” sentiment was added along the bottom, popped up with Dimensionals, and finished with a trio of Rhinestone Basic Jewels for a little sparkle. Just like the first card, the mini card was adhered inside the base so it opens from the right, creating that fun, interactive surprise.

This second card is being entered into the AAA Birthday Challenge #81 with its winter birthday theme, and I couldn’t love the result more. Same layout, totally different feel—and that’s what makes this fun fold such a keeper.

    • Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words! I had such a great time discovering the Christmas (or Not) Bingo Challenge and absolutely loved the creative twist of working down a column. It really stretched my creativity in the best way!

I’m so glad you enjoyed seeing both fun fold versions using the same elements — that’s one of my favorite ways to create, too. It’s amazing how different cards can feel even when they share the same inspiration.

Thank you again for the warm welcome. I’m looking forward to joining in again during the next challenge session!
